Today we'll catch up with the students at Briarwood Prep, the private boarding school for children and teens. Let me give you a little background information about how it all works. If a student or their parent rolls a want for private school, this is accomplished by sending them to live at Briarwood Prep, where they live in dorms with other students (it's actually an apartment lot with four units, but I consider them all to be living in the same household), attend classes, acquire skills, and have social events. Each dorm has a Servo acting as a placeholder/caregiver for younger children. I don't do anything with the Servo other than have them conduct the headmaster visit needed to get all new students into private school; apart from that they just do whatever they want. Only students with a C average or higher can be accepted and the cost is $1000/day they will be attending, plus $3000/term in dorm fees (here a term is figured by life stage, so $3000 for their entire childhood and $3000 for their teenhood). Scholarships are also available based on the student's grade at the time of application, as well as whether they have a job or if they are an alien. All teens "graduate" high school at 8 days to Adult, at which point they are sent to Uni to either attend it or drop out and return to the regular 'hood to begin their adult lives. While they are at school, whether or not they attend class or do homework is randomized, so not everyone has an A+ all the time (children are always required to attend class and do homework since they are in danger of the Social Worker). At present I have 19 students at Briarwood (the max is 24), so it's pretty active. Incidentally, I should note that all households outside of Uni get played for one day only before moving on to the next.
First up, we'll visit girls' dorm A, where we have five students (all teens): Sydney Jacquet, Noelle Tellerman, Clarissa and Cybil Fancey, and Amy Broke.
Sydney is the daughter of Ella Jacquet Ottomas and Zack Tellerman. You may recall meeting her older brother Austin who is in college (see 7/2/20). She has a total of four siblings between her parents (Austin is her only full sibling). This round was Sydney's last day at Briarwood because she graduated with a B average and left for LFT. She spent her last day acquiring one last skill point and working one last shift at her job. Since it was Saturday (a day reserved for child sims to invite their parents to visit) the rest of her day was free for socialization and recreation. Next round Sydney will begin her freshman year at LFT.
Noelle Tellerman is the adopted daughter of Katie Tellerman. We met her brother Blake in yesterday's update. Noelle has a while yet before she'll graduate, but she'll definitely be attending Uni when she does because she's looking to pursue a Journalism career, which is one of the careers that sims need a degree for.* Since she doesn't have a job, Noelle spent her time relaxing this round.
Clarissa and Cybil Fancey, as you may have guessed, are twins. Their parents are Luc Young and Melissa Fancey (both former townies). They have a full brother, Jason, and two younger siblings (boy/girl twins) on their mother's side. Their mother left their father when they were fairly young, got involved with Goopy GilsCarbo for about five minutes, and now she lives in the homeless shelter with the younger twins. Luckily Clarissa and Cybil (and Jason) were able to live with their father, who has a much more stable lifestyle. At the moment both girls are planning to attend college, though neither actually needs to*, so we'll wait and see what happens with that. Cybil went to work, while Clarissa caught up on homework this round.
Amy Broke was a new student this round. Amy is the daughter of Annabeth (Broke) Copur and Abhijeet Deppiesse (Annabeth is the daughter of Beau and Jade Broke; Abhijeet is a former townie). Her mother is still alive and recently got married, but her father is deceased. She has one older sister on her father's side, who she barely knows. Since she's new here, Amy spent most of her time getting to know the other students.
Next up we have the boys' dorm A with five students as well (all teens): Jay Broke, Leo and Max Deppiesse, Aaron GilsCarbo, and Julian Delarosa.
Jay Broke is the adopted son of Aiden Broke (son of Dustin and Angela Broke). We met his brother Jordan Hanby in a previous update (see 6/30/20 #2). In addition to Jordan, Jay has another brother and two sisters. Since Jay is planning a career in Intelligence, for which he will need a masters degree*, his college want is locked in. He still has a few more days before he's ready to head to Uni though, so he spent this round doing a little skilling and hanging out with other students.
Leo and Max Deppiesse are the twin sons of Dylan Broke and Claire Deppiesse (Dylan is the son of Dustin and Angela Broke; Claire is a former Diva). The boys have an older sister on their mother's side and two older brothers plus a younger sister on their father's side. They are also Jay's cousins. Max's Uni want is locked since he needs a degree for Journalism, but Leo is not currently planning to go since he doesn't need a degree to be an Athlete.* They both have teen jobs and coincidentally they both reached the top levels of those jobs this round.
Aaron GilsCarbo is the son of Marylena Hamilton GilsCarbo and Goopy GilsCarbo (both former townies). We met Aaron's older sister Gabriella Hamilton yesterday. In addition, Aaron has a twin brother Garrett and 8 other siblings. That's 11 altogether. FYI, Goopy really gets around, lol. Aaron is new to Briarwood this round, but he started if off with a bang. He got a chance card promotion at his job, which led to him coming home early enough that he went back to his job for a second shift, during which he got another chance card that scored him $100. All told he made $480. Aaron does not have Uni locked, as he's planning to have 5 Top Businesses, and does not need to attend.* He did roll the want briefly, but then it rolled away, so he's considering I guess.
Finally, we have Julian Delarosa who is the son of Florence and Renaud Delarosa (Renaud is a former townie who I made take Florence's last name for some reason which I can no longer remember). His parents are no longer together and he has a younger brother on his father's side. Julian didn't have much going on this round, as he's also new and doesn't have a teen job. He does, however, have his Uni want locked because he's planning to become a Scientist which requires a masters degree.*
*All jobs are classified into one of four categories: Needs No Education, Needs a High School Diploma, Needs a College Degree, or Needs a Masters Degree. Sims are not allowed to work in jobs for which they have not attained the proper level of education. As stated, high school students' grades depend on random decisions about attending class or doing homework, so whether or not they graduate depends on their grade at 8 days to Adult (I consider a D as failing since I never let them fall below that because the game won't let teens move to Uni with an F). If they don't pass high school, they can't go to college (though they still go just to drop out and become adults). In addition, students need to have the want to go to college. For students who need a degree for their desired career, I will lock the want to go to Uni if it rolls up; for student who don't need the degree, I don't lock it until they have graduated high school. Therefore, some students who need college don't get accepted or choose not to go and others who don't need it sometimes choose to go anyway. Luckily for those who don't attend college, but need to, I have an online degree program which allows adults to get their GED and/or their college degree in their spare time.
That's it for today. We still have two more dorms at Briarwood to get through. Happy Simming!
