Pleasantview 7/15/20

Today we are visiting Sharlene Ottomas and her boyfriend Joe Graham.  Sharlene is a former hobby lot director and Joe is a former townie.  Sharlene was once married to Logan Ottomas (Sharla's son) and they have a daughter, Claire, together.  We actually already met Claire over at the prison; she'll likely return here once she gets out.  In addition, the couple have a toddler daughter, Jessica and just this round they welcomed a baby boy, Randall.  They plan to try for another baby right away next round (Joe doesn't have a lot of time left).  Sharlene has a job in Law Enforcement and Joe is a stay-at-home dad, which means money is a bit tight on one income, but they're making it work for now.  With an extra mouth to feed and potentially another, plus Claire, it remains to be seen.

Up next is the Orphanage!  This is one of my favorite lots to play; I'm a sucker for an underdog and these kids really have it rough.  I won't go into detail about how sims decide to give up their children because it's quite complicated, but suffice it to say that any "unwanted" children or true orphans with no relatives who can care for them end up here.  This lot is technically an apartment lot with four units, but as with Briarwood, I consider them all to be living in one household.  Obviously a group of kids needs a caregiver and so I've grown up a group of NPC teens and installed them in each unit as placeholders/caregivers.  I set up a communal cafeteria on the ground floor which I was hoping would spawn a cafeteria worker like the one at Briarwood, but it got glitched somehow and not only did no worker ever show up, but the stove is unusable to anyone, which means the caregivers must prepare meals of cereal and salad, etc.  If the place clears out of kids at some point I may try to redo it, but for now this is what we've got.  Also on the ground floor, there is a library, a rec room, and two communal bathrooms.  Out back is a sparsely furnished playground.  The second floor contains the living units, which are made up of a room with six beds for all the children to share, a private bedroom/bathroom for the caregiver, and a nursery which only the caregiver has access to.  Now on to the update.  Just for fun, since the kids "don't know" who their parents are, I won't be passing that info along, though you may eventually be able to connect the dots when I play the parents and mention that they've given up a child.

Unit One has six kids (the max allowed per unit): Anthony Tellerman, Dale Futa, Maya Tellerman, Olivia Landgraab, Mari Alpha, and Kyra Broke.  The caregiver is Michelle Kearney.
Anthony is a teen with a B average.  His LTW is to be an Athlete.  Lucky for him, he won't need a college degree for that because it's unlikely he'd be able to afford to go without earning several scholarships.
Dale is a teen with a D average and a job in Law Enforcement.  His LTW is also for Law Enforcement, which he won't need a degree for, which is good because I consider a D to be failing and would not allow him to be accepted to Uni with that grade.  (He'd still go of course, but would drop out.)  He still has time to bring it up, so we'll see.
Maya is a teen with a B- average and a job in Gaming.  Her LTW is for Intelligence, which requires not only a degree, but a masters as well.  IF she gets enough scholarship money and saves up from her job, she just might be able to afford to go to college.  If not, she'll need to complete the online degree program before pursuing a career in Intel.
Olivia is a child with an A+ average.  She'll be a teen in two days.
Mari is a child with a B average.  She'll also be a teen in two days.
Kyra is a child with a B+ average. She'll be a teen in four days.
Life is pretty easy for caregiver Michelle at the moment with no little ones to care for.  I did notice that she's developed a crush on one of her fellow caregivers.  My rule is if they fall in love with someone on their own or one of my other playables wants to have a relationship with them, I will let them become true playables and move out into their own lot, while replacing them with another former NPC.

Unit Two only has one kid: Jeremy Landgraab.  The caregiver is Merlin Patch.
Jeremy just became a child this round, so there's nothing to report.
Merlin has befriended his fellow caregivers, but has not formed any romantic attachments to anyone.

Happy Simming!
