It was a busy week at the founder's house. It took some time for me to get back into the swing of things, but I think the Kekahi family made some progress. Makala jumped right into running both Keanu's General Store and Lei Fleur. She ran into a few snags along the way, however, like when the manager of Lei Fleur (Meadow Thayer, who is playable) unexpectedly quit. She did manage to rehire her after a couple of days, but it was tough to run the place without help, especially since Marylena passed away early in the week at age 74. Since there's no cemetery yet, Marylena's urn rests on the bedside table in the master bedroom. Keanu's should be on the other side, but I think one of the teens smashed it last time I played, so I placed a decorative urn there in its place. Towards the end of the week, Davon grew into an adult and I had Makala pass the general store to him.
On the romantic front, I had assumed Makala would remain single for life, but she surprised me by falling in love with Ryan Wheeler. I moved him in and they married at the end of the week. I'm not moving them out just yet because there's really no need at the moment. If Davon gets serious about someone, they can always move out later. For now there's plenty of room, even with the baby on the way (Makala immediately rolled the want for a baby and I obliged her since she doesn't have time to waste), so there's no rush. Ryan already had a job in Culinary, which I have one slot available in, so I let him keep it. If he reaches the top of the career, it will be completely unlocked and anyone in town will be allowed to take that job. The twins plugged along, working at their brother's restaurant and pretty much being glued to each other's side, until the very end of the week when Kalen decided to make a move on townie Ivy Copur. They fell in love and Kalen wants to propose. Marina, however, is not happy about this development at all. She and Ivy spent a great deal of time harassing each other; they're well on their way to becoming enemies. Marina is going to be very upset if her twin marries Ivy, but the heart wants what it wants, right?
For those of you familiar with the BACC, you know that one of the ways to obtain a university is to take a 5% tax from each household each week for the purpose of eventually paying for a uni. I've expanded this just a bit. I require my sims to pay 5% of the value of, not only their home lot, but also the value of their business lots. Also the community funds are not just for building a university, rather the cost of ALL unowned community lots comes out of this budget. Of course, you must have four sim households for every unowned community lot you add, so there are fewer of these. At the moment, the only unowned lot I have is a police/fire station combo, which is a self-imposed additional requirement I added to the unlocking of the first Law Enforcement position and allowing of burglar/smoke alarms. This was inspired by the fact that many of the other careers require a specific type of lot to be present in order to unlock them. I thought it only made sense for there to be a police station in order for there to be police officers and a fire department in order for there to be firefighters. I did, however, combine them because, let's face it, they're not actually useful in any way game-wise. All that being said, the Kekahis added $9227.00 to the community funds this round, bringing the total up to $32,412.00. The next thing I plan to "build" is a neighborhood office building decoration, which I'm not counting as a lot, since it's not a lot, but which I'm requiring in order for sims to work in the Business career. I've decided the cost of the "building" will be $100,000 and it will be placed in the new Business District, even though technically the Business District is not unlocked until someone tops Business. To stay in keeping with the rules, I will not take the rewards for building the Business District (+5 SM & +5 CAS), nor will I allow anything else to be built there until I have a Business Tycoon.
My stats have not changed since last post (Marylena died, but Ryan moved in, so pop remains unchanged), if anyone is interested in which jobs have been opened up, this is what I have so far:
Business: One position available, pending the construction of an "office building". This is thanks to Keanu's General Store reaching rank 10.
Culinary: One position available, which is filled by Ryan Wheeler. This position is due to The Snack Shack reaching rank 5.
Law Enforcement: One position available, due to there having been three fires in sims' homes/businesses.
Natural Science: One position available, due to Le Fleur reaching rank 5. This one isn't particularly useful, however since no one can take the position without a degree.
Architecture: One position available because there are 10 lots in the neighborhood.
That's all I've got for now. Next up will be the Hastings family. Happy Simming!
