As we near the end of the Spring season, Sub farmers are looking forward to harvest time which will bring much needed food for their families, as well as income. A few households have managed to save enough money for craft benches, which allow wives to earn a bit of side income to supplement job/farm income. The Hopkins family is likely to be the first family to level up to Trade. Elsie Hopkins has been working on that flower bench non-stop to supplement her husband's and son's incomes. They've nearly reached $35,000; they'll need $50,000 to level up, at which point they will move to a new home and become shop owners (probably a flower shop, lol).
The Trade class has various differences in rules/restrictions, but the most notable ones are that the family must make their living from the shop, girls must now have dowries, and too many visits from the Repo Man could get the family demoted back to Poor/Subsistence Farmer. Moving up from Trade to either Professional or Gentleman Farmer will require saving up $100,000 which will be quite difficult with only shop income, temporary teen jobs, and bench/fishing income. I can't wait to take on that challenge though. I'm very excited to have my first upwardly mobile family.
In other news, the boy/girl ratio for Gen 3 is not improving. It's now 5/1. We've got to get more girls born! Gen 2 is overbalanced with boys already and I don't need a repeat of that situation. I've got a couple of newlyweds, a few more pending marriages, and several babies on the way, so I'm hoping for a run of girls to balance things out.
