Spring Valley 5/30/24

200 Old Mill Ln:  Daniel lost both his parents this winter.  Samuel was 75 and Hope 65.  They leave behind two and three siblings, respectively, as well as seven children and five grandchildren, though they didn't get to meet Daniel's son Nathan, who was born after they passed.  Lucy will be taking over the sewing in the wake of Hope's death.  Catherine is moving out to marry Ralph Ford, and Lucy is expecting their second child.

100 Old Mill Ln:  Anna's fears were realized before winter had even truly set in.  She passed away at the age of 65, leaving behind six children and three grandchildren, though the third grandchild wasn't born until after she died.  Henry was torn between his grief at the loss of his mother and his joy at the birth of his first son, Emmett, who will be his heir someday.  At least the family had the chance to celebrate at the Winter Festival before Anna passed and Camilla moved out to marry George Ford.

300 Main St:  Rachel is still behind on payments for some of her suppliers, but she's working as hard as she can to catch up.  Seth will soon be a teen and she plans to start teaching him the ropes of running the business, so he'll be ready to take over as soon as he reaches adulthood.  Once she hands off the shop, however, Rachel has decided to apply for a teaching position at the school.  It will keep her busy and bring in some extra income for the household.

Spring Valley 5/23/24

200 Creek Dr:  Lee caught a substantial amount of fish despite the cold temperatures, which will make for a nice payment come spring.  He'll need it as his fishing license will need to be renewed, not to mention that property taxes will be coming due as well.  In other news, their new baby girl Sharon is growing quickly and they're expecting another bundle of joy in early spring.

Spring Valley 5/21/24

1500 Main St (Spring Valley Inn):  Victoria celebrated her 75th birthday this winter.  She's seen a great deal in her lifetime, much of it sad, but she couldn't be happier now in her golden years.  Her son is doing well with the inn, and her grandson is poised to take over.  Her daughter Nora has a flourishing family as well, and even Glenda has found contentment helping out with the inn and the children.  She's even talking about taking up a craft of some sort, though she hasn't decided what it should be.  The lesson that Victoria has learned is that life is hard, but it's also very rewarding.

Spring Valley 5/17/24

700 Chapel Hill:  David and Scarlett welcomed their seventh and final child, Benjamin.  Their son Michael decided to farm peppers for a living and moved out to establish his own household.  Mary will stay here, as she has no marriage match.  David is finding he enjoys his work on the town council, given his work at the church is not terribly demanding.  Scarlett was disappointed that the turkey she made for the Winter Festival cooking competition came out burned to a crisp.  She doesn't have high hopes of winning a prize.

Spring Valley 5/13/24

100 Creek Dr:  It was an eventful season for this branch of the Ford family.  Warren married Theresa (Adams) Ford and they are already expecting their first child.  The family attended the Winter Festival where Ruth entered the cooking contest.  Charles made some toy bricks to sell, while Ruth did her baking and Warren brought in a few fish before the pond froze over.  Sadly, Charles did not live to see winter's end.  He died at the age of 68, leaving behind his wife, five siblings, and seven sons.  At the end of the season, George and Ralph both left home to start their own households (George will have a lemon grove and Ralph will be an eggplant farmer).

Spring Valley 5/10/24

100 Grove Rd:  Winter brought highs and lows for this branch of the Ford family.  Everyone attended the Winter Festival together and made some happy memories, and not a moment too soon, as they lost first Isaiah and then Faith.  At least Faith lived long enough to see Ezra and Joanna's first child, Felicity, born.  Isaiah and Faith passed away at ages 68 and 69, respectively.  They each leave behind a sister, as well as six children and two grandchildren.  Isabella is set to marry Richard Ford in early spring and Ezra and Joanna will be expecting another baby as well.

Spring Valley 5/9/24

500 Grove Rd:  James Madison is a newcomer to Spring Valley.  After losing his wife, he decided to make a fresh start here with his elderly father Walter and his young son Jackson.  He got started right away tending his apple orchard and managed to harvest a few apples before winter set in.  He also began the wife hunt immediately, landing on Gretchen Adams.  They're of a similar age and she gets along well with his family, so he feels they'll be a good fit.  Plus, she has some talent at making pottery, which will be very helpful to bring in some cash over the winter.  They married at the end of fall and are expecting their first child together.

Spring Valley 5/7/24

200 Farm Acre Rd:  Aaron Jefferson has been working on getting his new home set up and preparing his fields for the spring planting.  It's mostly drudgery, but he wants everything to be perfect when his bride (Claudia Jefferson) arrives.  They'll be married at the beginning of winter.

Spring Valley 5/6/24

500 Chestnut Way:  Gabriel Johnson and Jean (Jefferson) Johnson got married and settled into a house in town.  The wedding bells had barely faded when Gabriel had to go off to the mining camp.  He told Jean not to worry, as he'd be home by winter.  After he'd left, Jean discovered she was expecting their first child.  She never thought she'd be doing this all on her own, but she delivered a healthy baby girl named Rose.  Thankfully, Gabriel will be home soon, and she'll have the chance to experience married life for real.

Spring Valley 5/5/24

100 Mine Camp Rd:  Norman Ford is settling into his new home and his new job as the Mining Camp Overseer.  It's a bit lonely up on the mountain, not to mention cold, but he's adjusting.  He was able to do a little mining as well as some fishing to stock the cupboards before the snow got too heavy, so he should be able to get through the winter with no trouble.  He purchased a small shop in Spring Valley in which to sell some of the curios he found while mining.  Since he can only afford to travel into town once per year, he's decided to make the trip during the winter, since he can't work much during that time, and it'll give him (and his family eventually) a chance to visit the Winter Festival while in town.

Spring Valley 5/4/24

PBH Unit #2 (500 Chapel Hill):  Cadence is not looking forward to the coming winter.  The cold really seeps into her old bones, making it difficult to walk or perform daily activities.  And she can't seem to shake the looming dread that she won't get to see the spring thaw again.

PBH Unit #3 (500 Chapel Hill):  Naomi and Amelia have finally learned to get along, but Clara's headaches aren't over yet as three new feuds have sprung up between her roommates and other residents of the boarding house:  Amelia is now fighting with Cadence Jefferson, her sister Gretchen has it out for Grace Jefferson, and Clara's own sister Beatrice has now joined in the chaos by picking a fight with Katherine Johnson.  Will it never end?

100 Chapel Hill:  Mayor Curtis Johnson married Tabitha Adams in a small family ceremony before getting right back to his mayoral duties.  He met with his councilmen, attended to his daily business, and took a little time to spend with his new bride.  They welcomed their first child, Angel, near the end of Fall and are already expecting another.

Spring Valley 5/3/24

Primrose Boarding House (500 Chapel Hill):  Joy has come to the realization that life is not so bad as a single woman.  She makes her own money, has no one to answer to, and has the pleasure of spoiling all her nieces and nephews without all the hassle of pregnancy and childbirth.  She has a nice home and many friends.  Life is good.

PBH Unit #1 (500 Chapel Hill):  Molly got hired on at the school, making three teachers in one household.  They're bringing in a pretty good income amongst the five of them and having no trouble at all keeping up with their expenses.  Now that Gertrude and Jane are getting on in years though, they're wondering if they should be thinking about leaving some of their wealth to their families when they pass on.

Spring Valley 5/2/24

400 Main St:  Patience hired Molly Johnson on as a teacher, but she was informed by the mayor that one more position has been authorized, so she'll need to find another qualified applicant.  Thankfully, the twins are teens now and it won't be long before Ethan is ready to select an occupation.  She's prepared him well to take over as headmaster, but of course, there may be other young men in town who wish to apply for the job as well, so it's not a sure thing.

Spring Valley 5/1/24

400 Pine St:  Garrett and Nora welcomed two more girls to the family, first Hannah and then Laura.  The eggplant crop was small, but Nora made quite a few pies and cakes, so they'll still have a decent payment coming in winter.  Now that Tyler is a teen, he'll soon be thinking about getting married and taking over the farm from his father, which is a relief to Garrett, as his old bones are getting tired.
