Spring Valley 2/28/24

200 Creek Dr:  Julia got a pretty good payment for her sewing, which allowed her to keep the household going, though she still doesn't have enough money to replace everything that was lost in the fire.  She's also resumed fishing in her son's absence because it's up to her now to keep going for as long as she can.  Lucy will be married soon, and Julia will finally be able to rest easy that her (remaining) children are as settled and happy as they can be.

Spring Valley 2/26/24

1500 Main St. (Spring Valley Inn):  Victoria is thrilled to see her family thriving after so many difficult years.  Her daughter Nora is married with a new baby, and now her son is also married and the father of twins, Helen and Oliver.  The business is running smoothly as well.  Victoria knows that if her late husband could see what has become of the little inn he started, he'd be so proud.

Spring Valley 2/25/24

700 Chapel Hill:  David was saddened by the loss of so many townsfolk over the winter; they were all young people in the prime of their lives.  Scarlett has not had much time to reflect on other families' troubles, as she has more than enough on her plate as it is.  Between the twins and Isaac, not to mention being pregnant, she has been run off her feet all spring.  Now that the twins are finally in school and she's delivered another son, Timothy, she hopes things will settle down a bit.  She has the sneaking suspicion that she won't get her wish though, because she's fairly certain she's pregnant again.

Spring Valley 2/24/24

100 Creek Dr:  Charles brought in a huge haul of fish that will keep the family financially stable for a while to come, which is comforting considering they've just welcomed their seventh son Joseph to the family.  In addition, now that Charles is an elder, he'll start making some toys to sell at the general store.  He'll still fish full-time for the time being, but Warren will soon be old enough to take over, leaving Charles with plenty of time on his hands.

Spring Valley 2/22/24

100 Grove Rd:  Isaiah's family made it through the winter, thanks to his cousin Charles' generosity.  Now that the spring thaw has come and he was able to harvest some apples, the food supply is looking good.  Faith even made a few daisy bouquets to sell.  Money is still tight, and times are still tough, but they're definitely looking up.

Spring Valley 2/19/24

PBH Unit #2 (500 Chapel Hill):  In this unit we have Rebecca Adams, Katherine Johnson, and Cadence Jefferson.  Cadence is by far the oldest, yet she's the newest resident, having lived with her brother for many years.  Now that her nephew is poised to take over the household, she felt it was time to move out, so as not to be a burden on him.  Rebecca is a seamstress, while Katherine and Cadence are trying their hands at flower arranging.  As roommates, they get along relatively well, however Katherine is not at all fond of Beatrice Ford, who lives upstairs.

PBH Unit #3 (500 Chapel Hill):  The Ford sisters, Clara, Beatrice, Harriet, and Mary, recently moved here.  Having grown up with a mother who was a potter, Clara, Bea, and Harriet decided to follow suit.  Harriet's twin Mary, however, wants to try something new and is doing sewing instead.  They're all grieving the loss of their younger brother Mason, who was the headmaster at the local school.  Maybe that's why Beatrice can't seem to get along with Katherine Johnson.  Clara doesn't have time to worry about her sister's petty squabbles, however, as she was hired to be the first teacher in Spring Valley.  With the population growing so quickly though, they could really use at least a couple more teachers to share the workload.  Mason had plans to hire more teachers, but in the wake of his demise, things are a bit up in the air.  Clara has written to the county seat to request they appoint a town council, or perhaps allow the town to elect a mayor, who could then see to appointing a new headmaster.

Spring Valley 2/18/24

PBH Unit #1 (500 Chapel Hill):  Two pairs of sisters live in this unit: Gertrude and Jane Ford, and Audrey and Grace Jefferson.  Gertrude sews, Jane and Grace make flower arrangements, and Audrey makes pottery.  They pool their resources together to pay for their room and board.  Gertrude has applied for a teaching position at Spring Valley Primary School.  Audrey and Grace were expecting their younger sister Lucy to be joining them here, but everything changed after the fire that claimed their brothers and their sister Celia.  Perhaps their mother will be joining them instead?

Spring Valley 2/17/24

400 Pine St:  After his older brother Charles took over the fishing trade from their father, Garrett Ford decided to become an eggplant farmer.  He's been working his farm for a while now and has just recently married Nora (Jefferson) Ford.  They have a new baby, Tyler, and are expecting their second child.  Nora will eventually become the town healer (when her mother Victoria passes away), but for now she's baking pies and cakes for the general store to bring in extra money.

400 Main St:  Patience (Johnson) Ford's father was the first minister of Spring Valley.  After her father's death, her mother opened the boarding house and Primrose Boutique.  Patience married the newly appointed headmaster of the primary school, Mason Ford.  She discovered she was pregnant immediately following the honeymoon.  Life was good...until the fateful day when a fire started in the parlor.  Mason attempted valiantly to extinguish it, but lost his life in the process.  Patience eventually delivered twins, Ethan and Temperance, and has taken over her late husband's duties temporarily while the town council seeks out a new headmaster.  She's not sure what will become of her now, but life has certainly not turned out the way she expected it to.

Primrose Boarding House (500 Chapel Hill):  Rose (Adams) Johnson is a widow, whose late husband, Elijah, was the first town minister.  They raised four daughters together, Charity, Patience, Joy, and Mercy.  After Elijah died, Rose moved her younger three daughters (Charity was already married) to the Primrose Boarding House where she took a position as the headmistress.  In addition, she opened a small boutique, selling clothing, flowers, pottery, and textiles.  Her daughter Patience recently married as well but, sadly her husband was killed in a fire.  Luckily, Patience survived the blaze and went on to deliver twins.  Joy's intended husband was also killed in a house fire, leaving her without a match.  Her youngest is to be wed in the spring to the innkeeper.  Rose knows she doesn't have much time left, so she's arranged for Joy to take over as headmistress and owner of the boutique.  She wants to do everything she can to make sure her daughters are settled and taken care of before she dies.

200 Grove Rd:  Liam Jefferson is a lemon grove owner and his wife Doris (Ford) Jefferson makes flower arrangements.  Together they have had six children: Brody, Gladys, Fiona, Jean, Eileen, and Tara.  Doris is currently expecting their seventh child.  Brody is engaged to Lydia Ford, and Fiona and Jean are promised to Lee Johnson and Gabriel Johnson, respectively.  Sadly, their daughter Gladys died in a fire while trying to save baby Tara.  Her heroic efforts will not go unremembered.

Spring Valley 2/15/24

100 Farm Acre Rd:  Clay Johnson and his wife Bethany (Adams) Johnson are newlyweds.  They have one infant son named Marcel and are expecting their second child.  Clay's elderly mother, Claire, and his two younger siblings, Juliet and Curtis, live with them.  Curtis, however, will soon be moving out on his own.  The family has had some tough times since Clay's father Jack died.  A thief stole some of their belongings and they've had trouble paying their bills, leading to the loss of even more of their things.  Claire's baking brings in a little money, but they really need to get the strawberries in the ground so they can make some decent income.  Luckily, they've got plenty of fish stored away, so they can still feed everyone.

Spring Valley 2/13/24

300 Pine St:  Sarah Jefferson has been widowed for some time now, raising her children on her own and trying to keep up with the pepper farm chores, as well as making flower arrangements to sell for extra cash.  It's been a struggle, but things are looking up now.  Her oldest daughter, Rachel, married the general store owner, her other daughters are grown and able to help out with the cooking and cleaning, and her sons are old enough to take care of themselves now.  Her eldest son, Andrew will soon take the reins of running the farm though, in all honesty, he's been working the land since he was barely out of diapers. Sarah just has to hold on a bit longer and pray that the fate that befell her sister Julia is not in the cards for her as well.

Spring Valley 2/12/24

200 Pine St:  Ernest Adams is a third-generation strawberry farmer.  He married Virginia (Ford) Adams some time ago and they have four children: Gabrielle, Tabitha, Wilhelmina, and Jesse.  Ernest also still has his elderly mother Samantha living with him, as well as his youngest sister Naomi.  The rest of his sisters have all been settled and his brother David is the town minister.  Samantha has been teaching Virginia to bake, so that she'll be prepared to take over that task once she's gone.

Spring Valley 2/11/24

100 Pine St:  Nathaniel Ford took over running the family pepper farm when his parents passed away.  He also took on caring for his four unmarried sisters.  At long last he got married to Charity (Johnson) Ford and they now have two daughters together.  Charity is expecting their third child.  His sisters decided it was time for them to move to the boarding house to give Nathaniel and Charity room to continue expanding the family.  Nathaniel was sad to see them go, but he agreed with their decision.  Charity is going to miss all the help around the house, especially now that their family is growing.  Luckily though, they are one of the most, if not the most, prosperous farming families in Spring Valley.

Spring Valley 2/10/24

300 Old Mill Ln:  Luke Johnson is a tomato farmer, and his wife Madeline bakes for extra income.  Together they have six children:  Molly, twins Jude and Lee, Gabriel, Chloe, and Shane.  Molly is planning to move to the boarding house in the spring.  She hopes to become a teacher at the Spring Valley Primary School.  All the other children are already promised to be married; Jude will be the heir to the tomato farm and his younger brothers will start their own households when they grow up.

Spring Valley 2/8/24

200 Old Mill Ln:  Samuel Jefferson is a cucumber farmer (third-generation).  His wife, Hope (Johnson) Jefferson, does sewing projects when she has time.  They have six children: Leah, who is engaged to Henry Adams, Daniel, who was promised to Celia Jefferson until she died recently in a house fire, and is now promised to her twin, Lucy, Joanna, who is promised to Ezra Ford, Iris, who was promised to Collin Jefferson, but he died in the same fire, Claudia, who is promised to Aaron Jefferson, and baby Catherine, who is promised to Ralph Ford.  Money is extremely tight, but the family still has some food, so they were able to make it through the winter.  They're looking forward to the spring planting because they really need to get some income besides what Hope makes from her potholders.

Spring Valley 2/7/24

100 Old Mill Ln:  William Adams and his wife Anna (Ford) Adams live here with their six children: Henry, Amelia, Gretchen, Theresa, Thomas, and Camilla.  William is a pole bean farmer.  Times have been tough for William and his family; they are very poor, but at least they've been able to keep food on the table.  Anna makes pottery in her spare time, selling some to the general store and some to the boutique in town.  Henry is engaged to Leah Jefferson and Amelia and Gretchen are planning to move to the Primrose Boarding House in the near future.  Unfortunately, they don't have a very large payment coming for Anna's pottery, so they may not be able to plat their entire field when sping arrives.

Spring Valley 2/6/24

300 Main St:  Christopher Adams is the owner of the Spring Valley General Store.  He and his twin sister (Victoria Jefferson) were raised by their father after their mother died, and he subsequently took over the business after his father passed away.  Christopher didn't get married until late in life.  His wife, Rachel (Jefferson) Adams is quite a bit younger than he is and they've only just started their little family.  They have two girls, Danielle and Michelle, and Rachel is expecting their third child.  No heir so far, but they've still got some time.  Rachel was saddened to hear the news about the fire that took the lives of three of her cousins, but she knows that even when tragedy strikes, life must go on.

Spring Valley 2/5/24

200 Creek Dr:  Julia (Ford) Jefferson is a third-generation widow, raising her children on her own.  Her husband, Connor Jefferson, died when she was pregnant with their sixth child.  He was a fisherman by trade.  Julia sews potholders and other textiles for extra cash.  Her oldest two daughters, Audrey and Grace, are unmarried and live at Primrose Boarding House.  The remaining four children (Duncan, the heir, twins Celia and Lucy, and Collin) were still at home, three of the four engaged or promised to be engaged, when tragedy struck.  A fire broke out in the kitchen and by the time Julia got it put out, it had claimed Duncan, Celia, and Collin.  Duncan and Celia were scheduled to be married to their respective mates in the spring, and Collin was also promised to someone upon reaching adulthood.  Lucy, the only surviving child, was the only one to be unmatched.  In light of her sister's untimely death, however, she will marry the man her sister was promised to.  This still leaves the household without an heir though.  Julia could go to live with her brother Isaiah, but his family is already struggling to keep food on the table, and she wouldn't want to put any extra hardship on him.  Alternatively, she could go to live with her two older daughters at the boarding house when Lucy gets married, but she would prefer to stay in her home until another young man is in need of a home of his own (provided she lives that long).

Spring Valley 2/4/24

1500 Main St (Spring Valley Inn):  Victoria Adams Jefferson has had a difficult life.  She and her twin brother, Christopher, lost their mother when they were just toddlers due to a complication in her second pregnancy.  They were raised by their father, Alexander, who owned the Spring Valley General Store.  The loss of her mother affected her so profoundly that Victoria developed a recipe for a medicinal soup that is very helpful in curing illnesses and thus, became the first town healer.  Her brother eventually took over the store and Victoria married Owen Jefferson and together they opened the Spring Valley Inn, a bed-and-breakfast/pub with living quarters above.  Victoria and Owen had three children together (Nora and twins Graham and Glenda) before Owen was killed in a tragic fire, leaving Victoria to run the business and raise the children on her own.  She has done a remarkably good job, though there were some tough times in the beginning.  Her daughter Nora is about to get married to Garrett Ford, and her son is betrothed to Mercy Johnson.  Graham has taken over running the pub at this point, and Victoria and Glenda help out with the cooking, cleaning, and entertainment.  Victoria still makes her medicinal soup, which she sells to her brother, who in turn sells it in his shop.  The recipe will pass to Nora when she dies.

Spring Valley 2/3/24

700 Chapel Hill:  David Adams, who is the brother of Ruth from the last household, is the town minister.  He is third/fourth generation and is married to Scarlett (Johnson) Adams.  Together, they have four children:  Simon, twins Mary and Michael, and Isaac.  David is the second minister; he took over when the first minister, Scarlett's uncle Elijah, passed away.  In addition to ministering to the townspeople and giving his weekly sermon, David is also responsible for tending to the graves in the church cemetery.  He is fully supported by the tithes of the people and thus will likely never be a wealthy man, but it's certainly more lucrative and less back-breaking work than what most of the residents do for a living.

Spring Valley 2/2/24

100 Creek Dr:  Charles Ford is a third-generation fisherman.  He's Isaiah's cousin actually.  His wife, Ruth (Adams) Ford, is third generation on one side and fourth generation on the other side.  Technically, Charles and Ruth are distant cousins, but not close enough to matter really.  They have had six children: twins Paul and Warren, Norman, Richard, George, and Ralph.  Sadly though, they lost their son Paul in a tragic fire when he was barely a child.  Ruth is expecting their seventh child now.  Warren, as the eldest, will take over the fishing trade from his father eventually, but for now he's still too young.  In addition to their fishing haul, Ruth bakes cakes and pies for the general store.  So even though they didn't get too many fish before winter set in, they still had the baked goods to fall back on and they're doing okay financially.  They even shared a few fish with Isaiah's family, as they know they're going through a tough time.

Spring Valley 2/1/24

100 Grove Rd:  Isaiah Ford is a third-generation resident of Spring Valley.  His grandparents were among the original town founders.  He is married to Faith (Adams) Ford, who is also third generation; her grandparents were the other half of the town founders.  Isaiah has an apple orchard that was passed down to him from his father, and his grandfather before him.  In addition to the apples, Faith makes small flower arrangements to sell to the general store.  The couple has six children: Lydia, Ezra, Hazel, Abigail, Violet, and Isabella.  Lydia will soon be getting married to Brody Jefferson.  Ezra, as the only male, will inherit the farm from his father.  He is betrothed to Joanna Jefferson, but she is not yet of age to marry.  The family is struggling to make it through a brutal winter.  They have run out of food and money, but luckily, they have a payment coming from the general store owner in due time.  Hopefully, they'll be able to squeak by until the money comes in.
